Emigration to Hawaii
Researching: KOWAL, POLACXEK, PULIATCHK, (POLIACZEK, POLACIEK, PULATCHIEKA)
I am attempting to learn about my grandparents who left Kossow, Galicia,
Austria in 1898 and traveled from Bremerhaven to the Hawaiian Islands on a
ship named the H.J. Glade. They traveled with a number of people also from
Kossow. I don't know where the town is specifically located or whether it
continues to exist. Does anyone have any information on what might have
caused the exodus of people from Kossow. My grandparents', who I know
nothing about, names were Wawara Kowal and Michal Polacxek or Polaczek.
After they were married they changed the name to Puliatchk.
We do have a list of others who also sailed to Hawaii.
The following surnames are those of persons who arrived in Hawaii in
1898 on the ship H.F. Glade which sailed from Bremerhaven. The list
was handwritten by the same person, so the spellings aren't always
easy to ascertain.
The following came from the village of Kossow (Kosow) in Galicia, Austria:
ROLSKI, CZUPCXYNSKI, RYGIEJLA, DHIELNIK,PETRIW, CZORNEJ (CZORNEY) (CXORNEY).
The following were came from the village of Slobodka in Galicia, Austria:
KLACZEK (KLACXEK) (KLACREK), AMBROXY (AMBROZY), WIERBICKI (WIEZBICKI), KLACX
(KLACZ).
